These 3 courses are designed for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technology. It provides students with project-based experiences in residential and commercial ventilation and refrigeration. Technical instruction includes an introduction and reviews of resource management, employability skills, trade mathematics, reviews of workplace safety policies and procedures and thermodynamics. Emphasis is placed on the generation and modification of electricity for HVAC systems, wiring principles and procedures approved by the National Electrical Code (NEC), operational techniques for ventilation and refrigeration systems, and troubleshooting techniques for refrigeration systems.
Prereqiustes: Employment level competency in written and oral communication in English.

EPA 608 CERTIFICATION (Refrigeration Engineer/Fundamentals)
This course is for new or existing HVAC technicians to help them prepare to take the EPA 608 Universal examination. The EPA 608 is a certificate requirement for any HVAC technician working on a refrigeration or air conditioning system that uses class one or class two refrigerants. Students taking this course will be given instruction, material and mock examinations to prepare for the certificate.

All Auto courses provide students with technical instruction and practical experience in an automobile area incorporating sustainable and green vehicle technologies. AUTO BODY REPAIR/1: NON-STRUCTURAL
This is the first of five courses designed for the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) certification in Auto Body Repair. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in techniques in the following areas of non-structural analysis and damage repair: preparation, outer body panel repairs/replacements/adjustments, metal finishing and body filling, movable glass and hardware, metal welding and cutting, plastics and adhesives.

These courses meet the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) licensing requirements for the Basic Area Clean Air Car and Enhanced Area Clean Air Car Program and Smog Update.
AUTO TECH: EMISSION CONTROL - BASIC AREA CLEAN AIR CAR COURSE
This course is one of a series of classes to be able to apply for the Enhanced Area (EA) Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) California State Emissions Test. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in the following areas of emission controls: operation & diagnosis of emission controls; laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to vehicle emission testing; vehicle emission testing; and introduction to On Board Diagnosis (OBD) II [Mode $06, check engine [MIL] light operation]. This course also teaches critical thinking skills and customer relations.
Prereqiustes: One year verifiable automotive experience. Employment level competency in written and oral communication in English.
Completion Requirements: Must complete 68 hours, obtain a minimum of 70% on written exams, and demonstrate proficiency to perform vehicle emission test.

This course is one of a series of classes to be able to apply for the Enhanced Area (EA) Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) California State Emissions Test. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in emission control with an emphasis on techniques in the following areas of emission controls: NOx emissions, operation of a Digital Storage Oscilloscope (DSO), BAR-97 Emission Inspection System (EIS), Acceleration Simulation Mode (ASM) testing; and catalytic converter operation and testing.

These courses are designed to give students the training necessary to take the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) alternative certification tests required for the Advanced Emissions Specialist exam for Smog Licensing.
Prereqiustes: One year verifiable automotive experience. Employment level competency in written and oral communication in English.
Completion Requirements: Must complete all hours in each section, obtain a minimum of 70% on a written exam, and demonstrate proficiency to perform vehicle emission test and diagnosis of an emission failure.

UPHOLSTERY/1 & UPHOLSTERY/2
These two courses are designed to provide students with technical instruction and practical experience in furniture and auto upholstery, incorporating sustainable and green products. Instruction includes an orientation, workplace safety, resource management, trade mathematics, and employability skills. Emphasis is placed on the safe and proper use of upholstery tools and materials, measuring and cutting, frame penetration, fabric selection and application, creation of cushions, pillows, and bolsters, channels and tufting, and skirts. Emphasis is also placed on cost estimation, and the removal, recovering, and reinstallation of auto seat units, seat covers, door panels, custom floor carpeting, headliners, landau tops, and convertible tops. A working knowledge of the different furniture styles that impact the upholstery of a piece is also presented as well as a working knowledge of business management and entrepreneurship.

This course provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in electrical wiring and codes. It focuses on safety, permit requirements and code compliance, wiring design and protection, wiring materials and methods, equipment for general use, special occupancies, special equipment, special conditions, communication systems sanctioned by the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the interpretation of data found in the NEC tables. It also covers a review of the practical aspects of resource management when wiring.

These courses are designed for alternative and renewable energy technology. Technical instruction includes an introduction and review of workplace safety policies and procedures, resource management, trade mathematics, employability skills and basic entrepreneurship. Emphasis is placed on PV system hardware, and component evaluation, site assessment techniques for finding suitable location for PV systems, sizing/costing/selection of PV systems based on the site assessment results, and PV system mechanical design criteria and adaptations. Emphasis is also placed on the electrical design adaptations for PV systems, installation of subsystems and components, maintenance procedures and troubleshooting techniques for PV system malfunctions, and exploration of local, national, and global markets for PV applications. Prepares students for the NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) exam.
