Barber Crossover

Overview

The Barber Crossover Program consists 1 competency-based course. Fully approved by the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology (CSBBC) this program is designed to prepare individuals for California's licensing examinations. Students will receive hands-on instruction and practical experience for the following techniques and procedures:
  • Preparing the client's hair for shaving
  • Assessing the condition of the client's skin
  • Performing shaving techniques
  • Applying after-shave antiseptic following facial services
  • Massaging the client's face
  • Rolling cream massages
 
Cost of Tuition: FREE
Total Program Hours: 200+
Barber Crossover Program Prerequisites:
  • An active, California Cosmetology License or "Proof of Training Hours" signed by the training provider is required to take this Barbering CrossOver      
    • 1600 hrs based on the old module
    • 1000 hrs based on the new module
  • Employment-level English language skills
  • Assessed Reading Level: 10th grade or higher
  • Completion of 10th grade (or equivalent)
  • Completion of CTE STEPS [Student Tools for Educational Pathways] Orientation - is an orientational course to help you get situated with all the necessary tools that you will need when we schedule / register you for your desired class and complete all the necessary paperwork for enrollment.
 
Prerequisite Documents:
These original, physical documents must also be presented. (Copies or images are not acceptable.)
  1. Social Security Card (signed) AND
  2. One of the following: 
    • State ID
    • Driver's License
    • Passport
  3. Valid California Cosmetology License/Proof of Training Hours (as described above)

Course Hours: 200+ hrs of Technical Instruction and Practical Training in Shaving

Course Details:
The required subjects of instruction in Shaving shall be completed with the minimum hours of technical instruction and practical operations for each subject-matter as follows:
  • Preparing the client's hair for shaving
  • Assessing the condition of the client's skin
  • Performing shaving techniques
  • Applying after-shave antiseptic following facial services
  • Massaging the client's face
  • Rolling cream massages

NOTES:

  • High school diploma or HiSET is recommended for employment.
  • Separate costs for books, exams, supplies, preparation, certifications and/or licenses provided by outside vendors may be incured.
  • Once a Certificate of Completion is earned in a course, that course cannot be repeated.
