Electrician

Overview

WVOC offers two (2) competency-based courses for Electrician. Students receive technical instruction and practical experience in workplace safety, fundamental electrical concepts, trade mathematics, storage batteries in direct current (DC) circuits, alternating current (AC), Ohm’s Law, and resource management.

The competencies in the following courses are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards and meet CompTIA A+ Essentials Certification requirements.

Electrician 1: Fundamentals (120 Hours)

Course Description: This is the first course in a two-course sequence that provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in workplace safety, fundamental electrical concepts, trade mathematics, storage batteries in direct current (DC) circuits, alternating current (AC), Ohm’s Law, and resource management.

  • Reading Assessment Requirement: Yes | 228+ on CASAS GOALS reading assessment

Electrician 2: Wiring Codes (120 Hours)

Course Description: This is the second course in a two-course sequence designed for electrician technician and electrician trainees. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in electrical wiring and codes. It focuses on safety, permit requirements, and code compliance, wiring design and protection, wiring materials and methods, equipment for general use, special occupancies, special equipment, special conditions, communication systems sanctioned by the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the interpretation of data found in the NEC tables. It also covers a review of the practical aspects of resource management when wiring.

Separate costs for books, exams, supplies, preparation, certifications and/or licenses provided by outside vendors may be incured.

Once a Certificate of Completion is earned in a course, that course cannot be repeated.
